Thick tube yarn: how to combine two skeins together?

When working with coarse yarn, it can often happen that you need to join two skeins of tube yarn together – whether because your project requires more than one skein, or you want to make a bed or mat with more than one color. How do you go about it? It’s really easy – read our short guide to find out!
What is tube yarn?
To begin with, a brief reminder of what a thick tube yarn is and to what it owes its properties: Thick yarn has a braid made of cotton or polyester knitted fabric filled inside with polyester fibers. The extra-thick tube yarn is made of high-quality materials – the braid is durable, does not deform or mend. The filling, on the other hand, thanks to the fact that it consists of fibers running the entire length of the yarn, does not shift or clump, which ensures the durability and stiffness of the yarn no matter how many times you weave and unweave it.
How to combine two skeins of tube yarn?
Combining our thick yarn is very easy, fast and does not require special sewing skills. If you’ve ever had a needle and thread in your hands then you’ll manage without a problem. Here we go!

We will start joining the giant yarn by wrapping the fabric about 2 cm deep at one of the joined ends of our soft yarn, so as to expose the filling.

The exposed filling is then cut off.

After cutting off the filling, unwind the previously wrapped braid – at one end of the yarn you get a hollow braid resembling a tunnel.

Slide the second end into the empty braid of the first end.

And finally, hem the joined ends with thread.
And done! It wasn’t difficult, was it? Such a connection is fast and durable, while at the same time, if you want to unravel the product and separate the yarns, you just need to cut the thread at the point of joining to get back two separate balls.
