Blanket weaving workshop – report
On December 18, an extremely important event took place – we conducted our first blanket weaving workshop using our chenille yarn! What was it like? Is blanket weaving actually easy and anyone can weave their own blanket in 2 hours? Keep reading to find out!
The last weekend before Christmas is usually a hectic time – we were even more pleased to find several participants who carved out time to learn how to weave blankets. The intimate atmosphere of Klubo Kawiarnia Alternatywa meant that although the participants did not know each other beforehand, after just a few minutes the room was filled with a buzz of conversation and merry laughter. You could get the impression that it was not a workshop, but a nice social gathering 🙂
Blanket weaving workshop – what does it look like?
For all four participants, our meeting was their first contact with coarse yarn and hands-on weaving. So it was an excellent test for us – is 2 hours enough for beginners to learn to weave on their hands and manage to make a blanket? We had to check it out! How did the workshop go?
We started with a brief introduction to our chenille yarn – each participant got five skeins in the colors of his choice, so as to create the blanket of his dreams 😉 Five skeins are enough skeins to create a 75 x 150 cm blanket – just enough for one person to cover himself with.
After being introduced to yarn, we began to demonstrate step by step how to weave a blanket. We have outlined all the key elements:
- how to make an initial braid
- how to make the first and subsequent rows of the blanket
- how to combine skeins
- how to finish a blanket
- What NOT to do, or what are the most common mistakes when weaving a blanket
After getting through the initial instructions, all the students got down to the task of weaving the blankets with glee. It went very smoothly, so all we had to do was watch over the quality and catch the escaping eyes in advance 😉 Everyone quickly caught on to what it was all about, the blankets were created in a flash.

Did everyone manage to weave a blanket?
As the minutes passed and the skeins unrolled, the blankets became longer and longer. The two hours passed in a flash, but we achieved full success – at the end of the workshop all four participants had their hand-woven blankets ready. 100% effective! So the words were confirmed that hand weaving is easy, fun and everyone can handle it 🙂 See for yourself what wonderful masterpieces each participant took home.

The blanket weaving workshop ended fantastically 🙂 we spent a wonderful two hours in the company of talented and creative people, we had interesting conversations, and most importantly – we managed to infect more people with the passion for weaving! We are incredibly happy to have led them. Maja, Karolina, Ola, Nikolai – thank you for your presence and we hope that this was not the last time we met 🙂 see you again!
