Chenille yarn: how to combine two skeins together?

As a better alternative to worsted wool or merino wool, chenille yarn is a great material for hand-woven items such as blankets or pillows. The blankets made from it are warm and pleasant to the touch, and weaving is simple and quick – it takes only 2-3 hours to create a 100×150 cm blanket! Not surprisingly, they are becoming more and more popular home furnishings every year.

A single skein is about 25 m long. Depending on the dimensions of the blanket or pillow, several skeins are needed to create the entire product. So the question arises: how to connect the skeins together so that the connection is permanent and invisible? The ways are two:

  1. Tie the ends of the two skeins into a knot – when tying, locate the knot so that it is on the left side of the product. This may require a slight shortening of one of the skeins.
  2. Weld the ends of two skeins together using a lighter. This way we use the total length of both skeins, but requires safe handling of the fire. Caution: making the connection in this way risks burns or fire. If you are not 100 percent sure, do not try this method!

And done! It wasn’t difficult, was it? Such connections are fast and durable, while at the same time, if you want to unravel the product and separate the yarns, all you have to do is untangle the knot or cut the yarn at the point of seaming to get back two separate skeins.
